Vertigo / Dizziness

The two most common types of vertigo include Central and Peripheral vertigo.  Central is related to the central nervous system and peripheral is related to the ears.   Some of the common causes of central vertigo include trauma, allergies, tumors, and strokes but the cause is often left unknown.  Balance therapy is typically recommended for Central Vertigo.  Balance therapy is an exercise based program that retrains the central nervous system correcting balance and dizziness.   Causes of Peripheral vertigo are typically due to the calcium crystals being out of position.  This is corrected by using a maneuver where you have the patient lay in 5 different positions.  This maneuver moves the crystals back into the correct position.   Both of the treatments for these types of vertigo are very effective.
